Thirty years in the trade
The business behind this site started on the used-car market in
Lahore and has been in it ever since. Thirty years of buying cars,
selling cars, valuing cars for other people, and standing in
dealerships arguing about whether a bonnet has been resprayed.
What thirty years actually buys you is not knowledge of cars. It is a
phone book. Dealers across the city, independent traders in the towns
around it who move stock between cities every week, and the leasing
desks at the banks, who see more used cars in a month than most dealers
see in a year and who need somewhere to place the ones that come back
to them.
Those relationships are the reason this site can start with real stock
instead of waiting for strangers to find it. A marketplace with nothing
on it is not a marketplace.
Why build another car site
There is a national classifieds site that everybody in Pakistan knows,
and it does a perfectly good job of being national. Having the most
cars is not what we are trying to do. Having every one of them answer
the two questions a buyer actually asks — what is the paint
like, and is the file clean — is.
Three things kept coming up, year after year, and none of them is a
technology problem:
-
Ads that do not answer the two questions everybody
asks. Has it been painted, and is the original file there.
Every phone call starts with those, and almost no ad answers them.
-
Ads nobody has looked at. A listing that goes live
the second it is typed is a listing where the year, the mileage and
the price are whatever the seller felt like that morning.
-
No way to sell a car quickly at a fair price. A
dealer with a car that has to move this week has a choice between
waiting and dropping the price. An auction is the third option, and
nobody local runs one.
So the site answers those three, and not much else. It is not trying to
be a portal.
What makes us different
A person reads every ad
Nothing goes live automatically. An administrator opens each
ad, looks at the photographs, checks the year against the
model, checks the price is not fantasy, and strips out phone
numbers people try to hide in the description. Usually within
one working day. He can fix an obvious typo rather than reject
the whole ad over it, and if he does reject it, the seller is
told why.
Paint and file, stated up front
Paint condition and original file status are compulsory fields
on every ad, not optional extras buried in the description. All
original, minor touch-up, one panel repainted, or two or more —
the seller has to pick one, and it is printed on the ad in a
shaded row where nobody can miss it. Sellers who do not want to
answer that do not advertise here.
Auctions
Any registered member can put a car up for auction —
private seller or dealer —
for 7, 15 or 30 days.
Bidders verify their CNIC once before their first bid, so the
seller knows who is bidding. GaariBazar holds no money and
takes no deposit; when the clock stops we put the highest bidder
and the seller in touch and step out of it.
See what is running now.
Where we operate
Lahore first, and then the cities the Lahore trade actually
deals with.
1 city,
6 cars,
6 of them in Lahore.
We would rather be the site every dealer in Lahore uses than the
four-hundredth result for "used cars Pakistan".
Who runs it
Placeholder — for the client to fill in
[ Owner's name ]
Founder. [ One short paragraph in the owner's own words: how he
started, what he is known for in the trade, and why he decided
to build this. Two or three sentences is enough — this is the
paragraph that makes a stranger trust the site, and it works
better plain than polished. ]
We have deliberately not written anything here. A biography
invented by a web developer is worse than no biography at all,
and a buyer in Lahore can tell the difference. Supply a
name, a photograph and a paragraph and this block is finished.
